Colfax Indiana (2000 population = 768) lies in Perry Township, in extreme southwestern Clinton County. In was laid out in 1849 by Montgomery Stroud, and originally named Medway. At one time, Colfax was a railroad junction. Now it is served by county roads, though US 52 passes by a mile or so to the northeast. In 1886, according to the History of Clinton County, Indiana, Mulberry was home to two barbers, three lawyers, and five physicians. Few businesses survive today, but there is a locally known fish restaurant in town.
