Churubusco

Churubusco (2000 Population = 1,666) is located at the intersection of US 33 and Indiana 205 in Smith Township, in the extreme northeastern corner of Whitley County. The town dates from the 1840s and is named for a place important in the Mexican-American War. The town is regionally famous as the home of Oscar, "The Beast of Busco". Oscar was said to be a 400 pound snapping turtle first spotted in 1948. Though never captured, Oscar remains a local legend and Churubusco still calls itself "Turtle City".
